Gerhard Berger recently wavered between Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna, but now he has clarity: There's no one better than Max Verstappen!
Berger believes that if we set aside everything else and simply look at the racing talent and resulting performance, Verstappen has already surpassed the iconic figures:
"It's difficult to judge this question soberly, as I raced against Ayrton Senna, so for a long time, I put him in first place; I was always impressed by his abilities. But in this matter, we also need to consider the numbers and statistics, and in those, Michael Schumacher is clearly the best. But now, we have this boy Max Verstappen, and I doubt that my old ranking is correct anymore. Why? Because in his previous championship-winning season, Max simply made no mistakes, something even Senna did. Max has an incredible arsenal of tools that neither Lewis Hamilton nor Michael Schumacher nor even Ayrton Senna possessed. The way he positions himself in overtakes, how he orchestrates them mentally, his movements at the start, or in the first corner battles, his behavior in wheel-to-wheel combat. I couldn't say anything that could be done better than what he does. And that's why I think Max Verstappen is the greatest Formula 1 driver ever!" - strong words arrived about Max Verstappen.
