It is very rare for someone to lead the drivers' championship in F1 (and by a significant margin) while being only in third place in the constructors' championship.
With the resurgence of McLaren and the strong performance of Scuderia Ferrari, the final stretch of the 2024 season is becoming increasingly exciting. Max Verstappen's world championship title is not currently at risk, but with another Lando Norris victory and a potential Red Bull Racing zero points, the parties would come so close to each other that it could even be labeled as an open competition.
In the meantime, however, the Dutchman is racing towards another success, which is not only special because it would be another title defense. His team is currently sitting in third place in the constructors' championship, and if Verstappen manages to secure the world title despite this, he could match a 41-year-old record, specifically that of Nelson Piquet, who became world champion in 1983 while driving for a team that finished third in the constructors' championship. After the dominance of recent seasons, it is quite interesting to write about this, but that is exactly the situation now.
