Frederic Vasseur and Scuderia Ferrari have already turned their faces towards 2024, and alongside strengthening the technology, the most frequently recurring question concerns the drivers' contracts.
While the former, the team principal of the reds, also revealed the fact of negotiations with the driver often cursed by Ferrari fans, the cooler relationship with Verstappen is maintained in Maranello, preferred by supporters of the Italian team. Nevertheless, Vasseur's standpoint is that you never know what life brings...
"In the first half of the season, we indeed talked with Lewis Hamilton about possibly continuing his career at Scuderia Ferrari. It's entirely normal for a team with our traditions to be in the picture in the driver market, and besides, Lewis and I have had a good relationship for twenty years, he even raced under me. We sat down in Baku, and that's where it all started, which could have fueled the speculation.
However, there was no similar meeting between Max and me, especially since he has a contract until 2025 or even longer. We are aware of his and Ferrari's history, but I think if you asked the heads of all the other teams if they would like to have Max Verstappen in their ranks, the answer would be a clear yes. My approach to the question is, never say never!" – stated Frederic Vasseur, who also emphasized that currently, retaining their existing driver lineup is the priority.
