The Dutch Grand Prix is not lost after all: Zandvoort out, Assen in?

The Dutch Grand Prix is not lost after all: Zandvoort out, Assen in?

Tóth Krisztián Márk |

For some time now, it has been known that Zandvoort, and thus the Netherlands, will soon leave the F1 circuit. Two more races will be held at this track, and then… After some initial hesitation, Assen has now announced that it would be happy to take over the baton!

However, the situation is not simple. The true traditions of Europe and Formula 1 mean less and less to the current leadership of the racing circus, (unfortunately) despite this, Arjan Bos, the president of the Assen track, indicated that they would be happy to be partners in the (otherwise terrible) rotational system devised by F1.

"Of course, it is a big dream of ours to bring Formula 1 to Assen. I think that when you invest so much money in a track and enjoy the support of the audience as well, then - if possible - we definitely have to try. That’s exactly what we are doing, and we are approaching the opportunity very positively. We will calmly review what is needed to apply meaningfully, but for now, it cannot be stated that Zandvoort is saying goodbye and Assen is coming in.

We need to remain cautious. I don’t know, we will see if F1 even desires this race. I would like to hear Zandvoort's arguments about why they are stopping, and I am also not familiar with Formula 1's ideas regarding the Netherlands. We know they want fewer European races and that they are considering Africa and India as well. These aspects also need to be taken into account." - Bos reflected.
