Red Bull Racing encountered a series of technical and strategic challenges during the 2026 United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of The Americas. Despite strong qualifying positions, both Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar faced setbacks that affected their race outcomes.

Max Verstappen secured second place on the grid but struggled at the start, losing positions to Charles Leclerc of Ferrari and Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes AMG. Throughout the race, Verstappen dealt with inconsistent power unit performance, which impacted the car’s balance and handling, particularly in high-speed corners. Additionally, the team’s tyre strategy did not play out as expected, with harder compounds performing better than anticipated. A slow pit stop further compromised Verstappen’s chances, resulting in a third-place finish.

Isack Hadjar, who qualified third, also experienced difficulties from the outset. A problematic start caused by clutch overdelivery beyond his control led to a drop in positions. Although Hadjar managed to recover to third during the race, team orders required him to let Verstappen pass. Later, incorrect engine mapping after a pit stop caused throttle issues, which hampered his performance and saw him finish sixth.

Both drivers expressed frustration over the technical and electronic problems that affected their races. Verstappen noted that after two strong weekends, the team struggled at this particular circuit due to its layout and the car’s performance characteristics. The issues with the power unit and tyre choices highlighted the challenges Red Bull faced in adapting to the conditions at Austin.

The race underscored how small technical inconsistencies and strategic decisions can influence outcomes even for top teams. Red Bull’s difficulties contrasted with the performances of rivals such as Ferrari and Mercedes, who capitalized on the situation during the Grand Prix.

While Verstappen and Hadjar showed resilience in recovering positions during the race, the combination of a poor start, power unit irregularities, tyre strategy, and pit stop delays ultimately limited their results. The weekend served as a reminder of the complexities involved in managing car performance and race strategy in the Formula 1® championship.

These challenges at the United States Grand Prix provide insight into the ongoing technical and operational factors that teams must address as the season progresses. Verstappen and Hadjar’s experiences reflect the fine margins that can affect race day performance in the highly competitive environment of Formula 1®.
