Qatar sprint: Piastri secured a gift victory

Qatar sprint: Piastri secured a gift victory

Tóth Krisztián Márk |

Lando Norris dominated the Saturday afternoon sprint race at the Qatari Grand Prix, but in the last lap, he handed the victory to his teammate, Oscar Piastri.

The two McLarens had a great start, with Lando Norris quickly pulling away from the field. It was interesting to observe Max Verstappen's struggles in the back regions, as the fresh world champion couldn't make his way past Pierre Gasly even by the fourth lap. He only managed to do so by the eighth lap, which is not what we usually expect from him... Speaking of Red Bull Racing, it's worth mentioning Sergio Perez's 'performance' as well, who couldn't even overtake Franco Colapinto starting from the pits (instead, the Argentine did this right away) and was running in 19th place. It should be noted that it is slowly bordering on the incredible category that someone can be a Formula 1 driver and a member of the Red Bull team with such a performance... Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc moved up to fifth place after a spectacular battle against Lewis Hamilton, so we saw a pattern of McLaren, Mercedes, Ferrari. In the end, this didn't change much, except that in the last lap, Lando Norris handed the victory to Oscar Piastri, with George Russell also making it onto the podium behind them.
