Pirelli has approximately ten weeks to ready the tyre compounds for Sepang, which last hosted a Formula 1® event in 2017. Given the limited preparation time, the company will rely heavily on historical data from that race to select suitable tyre compounds. The chosen range will reflect medium, soft, and supersoft compounds, corresponding to the current C2, C3, and C4 options.
The decision to move the Bahrain Grand Prix to Sepang came after the original event could not be held in its scheduled April slot or later in the year, due to the ongoing conflict in Iran. Pirelli Motorsport director Dario Marrafuschi highlighted the need for flexibility in tyre production to accommodate such calendar changes and potential backup plans. Unlike usual preparations, Pirelli will not have the opportunity to send personnel for fresh track analysis and will instead air-freight the tyres to ensure timely delivery.
Marrafuschi also noted that for European rounds, Pirelli typically requires at least seven weeks’ notice to prepare the tyres. Imola has been mentioned as a potential season finale venue should other rounds be cancelled, with conditions there expected to be manageable but not ideal, somewhat comparable to those experienced during Barcelona testing.
