Oops: Could Sainz be the new FIA president?

Oops: Could Sainz be the new FIA president?

Tóth Krisztián Márk |

There is a lot of butter behind Mohammed bin Sulayem's ears already. Although this is not reflected in ticket sales and television ratings, F1 is likely experiencing its darkest period to date.

This is well illustrated by the unprofessional, almost farcical decisions, inconsistent judgments, and the uncontrolled selling off of the sport. And this is just the surface of everything that bin Sulayem has actively "assisted" with. Not only the fans and the press, but even the industry has revolted against the Arab, who is trying to cover up his incompetence with such red herrings as the massive harassment of drivers for swearing... This last point may have been the last straw for an internal, influential group, several key figures of which have openly called on older Carlos Sainz to run for the FIA's end-of-year election for the presidential position. The 63-year-old, still active driver is reportedly not turning down the invitation and wants to offer an alternative for the post-Sulayem era with a positively toned, fully constructive program. We would love to see him in the velvet chair...
