Oliver Bearman’s progression in Formula 1® has been marked not only by his on-track performances but also by his personal growth and resilience off the circuit. The second season of Lawrence Barretto’s F1 TV series "Off The Grid" offers an exclusive look into Bearman’s life beyond racing, highlighting the experiences that have shaped him as a driver and individual.

Bearman’s journey began in earnest when he joined the Ferrari Driver Academy in 2021, moving to Italy at just 16 years old. This transition accelerated his maturity and development, providing a foundation that supported his rise through the ranks. His first taste of Formula 1® machinery came during a test in a 2019 Ferrari car at Fiorano, followed by his debut in a free practice session at the 2023 Mexican Grand Prix with Haas. Impressing the Haas leadership, Bearman secured a reserve driver role in 2024, participating in multiple FP1 sessions.

His unexpected race debut occurred at the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, where he substituted for Carlos Sainz, who was sidelined due to appendicitis. Bearman finished seventh, scoring points in his first race appearance. The following year, he made two more substitute appearances for Haas, replacing Kevin Magnussen, before earning a full-time seat with the team in 2025. His rookie season presented challenges, including crashes in Australia and Miami, but also featured three consecutive points finishes and a notable fourth place in Mexico.

In the 2026 season, Bearman started strongly with several points finishes but experienced the most significant crash of his career during the Japanese Grand Prix. Fortunately, he escaped unharmed. The incident was particularly emotional for his family, with his mother Terri recalling the tense moments watching remotely. Despite these challenges, Bearman remains proud of his relationship with Haas and is focused on achieving his first race win and ultimately a championship with the team. He also continues to maintain ties with Ferrari, reflecting his ongoing connection to the Driver Academy and his substitute role.

The "Off The Grid" episode sheds light on Bearman’s personal side, illustrating his resilience and ambition as he navigates the pressures of Formula 1®. It captures the balance he seeks between his professional commitments and life away from the track, offering fans a more rounded perspective on the young driver’s journey.

Bearman’s story is a reminder of the demands placed on emerging talents in the sport and the importance of personal growth alongside competitive progress. His experiences with Ferrari and Haas demonstrate a pathway marked by adaptability and steady development within the Formula 1® environment.
