Nikola Tsolov, currently leading the Formula 2® championship and a member of the Red Bull Junior Team, has completed his first Formula 1® test with Racing Bulls. The test took place at Imola as part of the Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) programme, marking a significant step in Tsolov’s development within the sport.
During the session, Tsolov covered a total of 690 kilometres behind the wheel of a Racing Bulls Formula 1® car. This opportunity allowed him to gain valuable experience with the machinery and adapt to the demands of the top tier of motorsport. Tsolov expressed his gratitude for the chance, describing the test as an important milestone in his racing career.
The test is part of Racing Bulls’ ongoing strategy to nurture young talent through their junior driver development programme. Alan Permane, Racing Bulls Team Principal, praised Tsolov’s ability to quickly adjust to the car and maintain composure throughout the test. Permane highlighted the importance of such programmes in preparing drivers for the challenges of Formula 1® competition.
Currently, Tsolov leads the Formula 2® championship by 20 points over his closest rival, Gabriele Mini. Despite the excitement surrounding his first Formula 1® test, Tsolov remains focused on his immediate goal of securing the Formula 2® title. His championship campaign continues with the next race scheduled at Monza.
There has been speculation about Tsolov’s potential promotion to Racing Bulls’ Formula 1® lineup for the 2027 season. However, Permane clarified that no decision has been made regarding this possibility. The team continues to evaluate Tsolov’s progress carefully as part of their broader approach to driver development.
