Juan Pablo Montoya rarely speaks up, but when he does, there is always a compelling reason. This time is no different, as he couldn't remain silent about the performance of ex-F1 driver Carlos Sainz.
However, the situation Montoya commented on is not just about one person, as Franco Collapinto, who burst onto the Formula 1 scene like a comet, is also significantly involved. The Colombian driver made sure to include him in his remarks:
“If I were Christian Horner or one of the Red Bull bosses, I would immediately go to Williams and tell them that if you are happy with Colapinto, then let him stay with you, and let Sainz come to us. It would be good for Franco not to face such a huge challenge right away, like Max Verstappen. He might even pose a greater risk than Sergio Perez. The latter is experienced, has race wins, and knows the conditions. At the same time, let’s remember how Alexander Albon fared and how he fell apart… And this is where Carlos Sainz comes into play. It would be a challenge for Verstappen, a tremendous boost in the constructors' battle, plus they would benefit financially as well.
If I were in Horner's position, I would choose Sainz, not Collapinto.” - Montoya likely expressed this sentiment from the hearts of many fans.
