FansBRANDS® Team |

Marcin Budkowski has been named the new Team Principal of the Cadillac Formula 1® team, with his leadership set to begin at the Dutch Grand Prix weekend in 2026. This appointment marks a significant step in Budkowski’s extensive career within the sport, bringing a wealth of experience to the American outfit as it continues to establish itself in the championship.

Budkowski, a 49-year-old Polish engineer, has a long-standing history in Formula 1®, starting his career at Prost Grand Prix in 2001. He then spent six seasons at Ferrari before moving to McLaren in 2007. During his time at McLaren, he worked both trackside and at the team’s headquarters, contributing to the 2008 World Championship win with Lewis Hamilton. In 2012, he took on the role of Head of Aerodynamics, further cementing his technical credentials.

After his stint at McLaren, Budkowski joined the FIA, where he held technical and sporting roles, including Deputy Race Director. Notably, he was involved in the introduction of the halo safety device in 2018, a key development in driver protection. He later returned to the team side with Renault, which became Alpine, serving as Executive Director and playing a part in Alpine’s first Grand Prix victory in 2021 with Esteban Ocon.

Budkowski left Alpine early in 2022 amid leadership changes and has since been a familiar figure in the paddock, often seen through Viaplay coverage. His appointment at Cadillac replaces Graeme Lowdon and represents his most prominent leadership role in Formula 1® to date. The move highlights Cadillac’s intent to leverage experienced leadership as it seeks to grow its presence and competitiveness in the sport.

Throughout his career, Budkowski has worked with several prominent teams and figures in Formula 1®, including his time alongside Lewis Hamilton at McLaren and his role in Alpine’s leadership during Esteban Ocon’s maiden Grand Prix win. His technical background and experience in both team and regulatory roles provide a broad perspective that could be valuable for Cadillac’s development.

While specific plans or strategic goals for Cadillac under Budkowski’s leadership have not been detailed, his appointment signals a commitment to experienced management as the team continues its journey in Formula 1®. His tenure will officially start from the Dutch Grand Prix weekend in 2026, marking a new chapter for the team.

This leadership change comes at a time when Cadillac is building its Formula 1® programme, aiming to establish itself firmly within the highly competitive environment of the championship. Budkowski’s track record across multiple teams and roles offers a foundation of expertise that could support the team’s ambitions moving forward.
