The stewards have concluded their investigation into Liam Lawson's defensive manoeuvre during the Silverstone Sprint at the British Grand Prix. Following a hearing with the drivers and teams involved, the officials issued a formal warning to Lawson but decided against imposing a penalty, allowing him to keep his eighth-place finish and the associated championship point.
The incident in question occurred in the closing stages of the Sprint race when Isack Hadjar, driving for Red Bull Racing, attempted an inside overtake on Lawson, who races for Racing Bulls. Lawson moved to defend his position by cutting across Hadjar’s line. While the stewards acknowledged that Lawson’s move was late and abrupt, they judged that he left enough space and that the differing energy levels between the cars complicated the situation.
In addition to the Lawson-Hadjar incident, the stewards also addressed a separate matter involving Nico Hulkenberg of Audi. Hulkenberg received a five-second penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage while defending against Esteban Ocon of Haas on the first lap. The penalty dropped Hulkenberg from 13th to 15th place. The stewards noted that although Hulkenberg attempted to avoid a collision, he carried excessive speed into the corner, which led to the track limits breach.
