Lawson: "McLaren should be ashamed of themselves..."

Lawson: "McLaren should be ashamed of themselves..."

Tóth Krisztián Márk |

Liam Lawson expressed his opinion in a podcast about what he thinks regarding McLaren bringing glory to the Brits while being from New Zealand.

Born in the stunning island nation, Lawson is not the first New Zealand F1 driver, as Denny Hulme has already been a world champion for the country. Yet, it is not they, but the papaya team McLaren that has achieved the greatest successes, as it was founded by a local, specifically named Bruce McLaren, who also raced in these colors first. Yes, but the team is not connected to the country, not like to England, to which it is tied in a thousand ways. This is what Lawson took issue with…

"I see no sense in this. McLaren is a New Zealand team through and through, even in its name. Its situation is somewhat similar to that of Red Bull Racing, where the Austrian anthem plays in case of their victory, despite the fact that they have grown all their roots in England. McLaren's headquarters is also there, but they are still New Zealanders. This seems like a colossal nonsense from a New Zealand perspective, especially since one of the greatest legends, Bruce McLaren, is the patriarch of the whole project." - Lawson expressed his valid criticism.
