FINALLY: Tradition Wins, Silverstone Stays in F1 for Another Ten Years

FINALLY: Tradition Wins, Silverstone Stays in F1 for Another Ten Years

Krisztián Márk Tóth |

The British Grand Prix will remain on the Formula 1 calendar until at least 2034, as the venue announced on Thursday that it has signed a new ten-year contract with the championship.

This is a great joy after the increasing number of boring street circuits and unremarkable American venues. Similar to Spa Francorchamps, Monza, and Monaco, Silverstone is the heart and soul of Formula 1, and now it's official that it will be part of the championship for another decade:

"We are pleased to announce that with this contract, the British Grand Prix will remain on the calendar for another ten years. Silverstone is a classic and iconic venue in Formula 1 history, hosting races for nearly ninety years. It is loved by many fans, and people all over the world recognize this place. There is no doubt that it belongs in the championship." - stated Stefano Domenicali, CEO of F1.

It would be great if this would start a trend, and more old tracks would receive similar recognition...
