Formula 1® CEO Stefano Domenicali has addressed the recent removal of battery state of charge information from F1 TV graphics, explaining that most fans prefer a simpler viewing experience focused on the on-track action rather than detailed technical data. This change comes amid the introduction of new power units in the 2026 season, which feature a significant 47% electric power component, making energy management a key factor in qualifying and races.

Initially, broadcasts included battery charge data during races, such as at the Australian Grand Prix, to help viewers understand the impact of energy deployment on performance. However, this information has since been phased out following criticism regarding the complexity of the new regulations and how they affect the racing spectacle. Some fans and commentators have expressed concerns that overtaking and wheel-to-wheel battles are harder to follow without access to battery data, which can explain fluctuations in pace and strategy.

Domenicali, however, disagrees with the notion that such technical details are essential for the majority of viewers. He highlighted discussions with George Lucas, noting that newer fans tend to prefer a more straightforward presentation that emphasizes overtaking and racing action rather than intricate telemetry like battery charge, throttle angle, or brake pressure. While this data remains accessible for niche audiences and dedicated followers, it is unlikely to be a prominent feature in mainstream broadcasts going forward.
