South Africa is running a very strong campaign to return the country to the Formula 1 circuit, and not just at the news level. Therefore, the country's sports minister has set up a committee that will select the promoter with whom the country can submit its application in the next few months.
It is rumored that Kyalami, a venue that is by no means unknown in F1, could be the winner. Gayton McKenzie, the sports minister, is already preparing for 2027, believing that the conditions for hosting could realistically come together by that time:
“The committee that has been established will determine the conditions for the application. They must submit a venue proposal to the government by the end of February, which will certainly not bring shame to the country and will host the best race possible given the circumstances. Which venue this will be is still unknown, but I would like to add that Kyalami has the history and the infrastructure. Just look at the climate, look at the roads, the possibility of a street race easily emerges. There are investors willing to invest in this, so I think everything is in place…” - said the most relevant participant in the matter.
