Did you know that a competitor who messes up a starting procedure is fined an amount X, while another who swears is fined double that? This has collectively annoyed the drivers' union!
The international motorsport federation has recently taken things a bit too far, and this has not only upset the fans. The drivers' association led by George Russell has sent an open letter to the president of the FIA:
"We are professional drivers competing at the pinnacle of international motorsport, Formula 1. We are gladiators, providing a special show for the fans every race weekend. When it comes to obscene language, there is a huge difference between wanting to hurt someone and, for instance, using inappropriate words about the weather, or making an unfiltered statement about our lifeless car, or a racing situation.
That is why we would like to ask the FIA president, Mohammed ben Sulayem, to consider his tone and language when speaking with or about us, whether in private conversations or in public forums. We are adults who do not need to be instructed through the media, especially not on such everyday matters as what to say or what we should or shouldn't take on ourselves…" - Russell and his team firmly stated.
