The Las Vegas Grand Prix qualifying is coming soon, and one of the favorites could be Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes.
In other words, we in the editorial office are betting on him as one of the contenders, but his former teammate and world champion colleague sees the issue quite differently. Jenson Button believes that Hamilton is simply too old and slow for qualifying! This is a harsh claim, but not entirely without basis. So far, only one person has managed to defeat the seven-time world champion in qualifying, and that was Nico Rosberg. In 2014, the tally was 12-7 in favor of Rosberg, but in the current season, Hamilton is facing a much harsher defeat from George Russell, who will be a Ferrari driver next year:
“Lewis is almost 40 now, maybe that’s why he has declined in qualifying. No matter how well he performs, no matter how good his reflexes are, he can no longer compete with the younger drivers. He is too old for this; he cannot keep up with them in a lap, and he probably finds it very hard to accept that his opponents are not only faster and fresher but also more consistent.” - Button brutally assessed his former rival.
