Brazil Grand Prix: Incredible Verstappen victory

Brazil Grand Prix: Incredible Verstappen victory

Tamás Jancsovics |

Terrible chaos, Lando Norris's hellish journey, Max Verstappen's resurrection, sprinkled with a bit of Alpine magic. In short, this is how the chronicle of the Brazilian Grand Prix looks.

Before the Brazilian Grand Prix even started, we could already document the first retirement: Lance Stroll crashed the Aston Martin during the formation lap and buried himself in the gravel. Thus, his race was over... The "second" first start was best executed by George Russell, who immediately took the lead ahead of Lando Norris. The field came through relatively cleanly, with only Sergio Perez managing to spin, dropping back to last place. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen in the other Red Bull showed a very strong comeback, moving up to seventh place ahead of Oscar Piastri within a few laps. Franco Colapinto and Oliver Bearman also put on a show, overtaking the struggling Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion was visibly struggling, failing to find harmony with his car, and lagging at the back of the field. Just as the race seemed to be flattening out, an extreme amount of rain fell on the track, prompting a safety car phase.

Before that, several drivers visited the pit lane, including Collapinto, who unfortunately crashed the Williams on his out lap. A red flag followed, a long wait, then a rolling start... During this, Esteban Ocon maintained his leading position, but Lando Norris lost a lot of ground in the background due to a slide. Meanwhile, Bearman ended up in the wall, but it happened in a good spot, allowing the race to continue without interruption. Meanwhile, Ocon's lead kept growing, but Carlos Sainz crashed, and the safety car was deployed again. Verstappen executed the next restart better and took the lead. And since Norris made a huge mistake, he practically handed the opportunity to his rival on a silver platter...

The next twenty laps went by like this, with Verstappen and the two Alpines on the podium, battles further back in the field, while Norris was "nowhere". No drama occurred in the remaining time, Max Verstappen thus won the Brazilian Grand Prix with a massive effort and a huge lead, ahead of Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly. And with this, he likely secured another world championship title.
