Dino Beganovic secured his second consecutive victory in the 2026 FIA Formula 2 Sprint Race held on the streets of Baku. Starting from third on the grid, Beganovic made a strong start and quickly moved into second place at the first corner before overtaking championship leader Nikola Tsolov to claim the lead.
Beganovic’s decisive move came when he used the Drag Reduction System (DRS) to pass Tsolov, who had started on pole. After taking the lead, Beganovic maintained his position throughout the race, crossing the finish line first to add to his recent success following his win in the Madrid Feature Race. This result further highlights his growing momentum in the championship.
The race saw Laurens van Hoepen finish in second place after capitalizing on a mistake by Tsolov at Turn 16, which dropped the championship leader down to fifth. Alexander Dunne, who began the race from tenth, managed to climb up to third, securing valuable points for his ongoing challenge in the standings.
The opening lap incident involving Rafael Camara and Mari Boya affected the race for both drivers. Camara, who is second in the championship standings, collided with Boya and subsequently received a 10-second penalty, which pushed him out of the points. Meanwhile, Gabriele Mini, who remains third in the Drivers' Standings, did not score points in this race.
Looking ahead, Alexander Dunne will start the upcoming Friday Feature Race from pole position and will line up second on the grid for the Saturday Feature Race. This positioning offers him a strong opportunity to add to his points tally and improve his standing in the championship.
Beganovic’s performance in Baku underscores his consistency and ability to challenge at the front in Formula 2. His back-to-back wins demonstrate his potential as a driver to watch in the series, while the race also highlighted the fine margins and challenges faced by other title contenders like Tsolov and Camara.
