The 2026 Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix offered more than just racing drama. Lewis Hamilton took his first victory for Ferrari, setting the fastest lap on lap 44, and his win formed part of a historic all-British podium, an occurrence not seen since 1968. Yet beyond the checkered flag, the paddock came alive with a host of unexpected moments, blending sport and local culture to remind everyone that a Formula 1® weekend can deliver plenty of surprises off the track.

Hamilton’s breakthrough result in scarlet was complemented by George Russell claiming second place for Mercedes and Lando Norris securing third for McLaren. Russell also marked his 100th start for the Silver Arrows, making the weekend as much about individual milestones as it was about championship points. The convergence of these British drivers on the podium created a nostalgic echo of motorsport history in front of a thrilled Catalan crowd.

Meanwhile, Media Day activities turned playful as Alpine’s Pierre Gasly and Isack Hadjar joined reserve driver Paul Aron for a friendly football match on a local pitch. At the same time, Racing Bulls revealed a football-inspired “VCARB FC” livery and launched matching jerseys and scarves to celebrate New Zealand’s Liam Lawson and England’s Arvid Lindblad, blurring the lines between motorsport and the world’s most popular game.

Racing Bulls’ new colours stood out amid the usual team liveries, echoing classic club crests and pitch-side graphics. The limited-edition merchandise sold in the paddock soon gave supporters a chance to wear their team pride both on and off the circuit. By merging football fan culture with Formula 1® style, the squad offered a fresh way to celebrate two global passions.

Alex Albon also enjoyed his share of the spotlight, becoming Williams’ record appearance holder. A ceremony in the team garage saw him meeting Nigel Mansell and donning a modern rendition of Mansell’s iconic helmet for the weekend. It was a poignant reminder of the sport’s heritage and how past legends continue to influence today’s grid.

Kimi Antonelli added his own theatrical twist to the weekend. He chose to watch FP1 from the grandstands wearing a Spider-Man mask, then accepted a personalized towel embroidered “To Kimi, from Kim” courtesy of Kim Kardashian. To top it off, a local fan presented him with a traditional Fuet sausage, combining Catalan flavour with high-profile showmanship.

On the podium, Russell faced a light-hearted test when asked to choose between a celebratory cake or his car keys—he went for the keys before securing his runner-up spot. That moment of levity underlined how personal milestones and small rituals can shine just as brightly as the race result itself.

These glimpses behind the scenes proved that a Grand Prix is about far more than lap times and pit stops. From football kickabouts to retro helmet tributes and surprise fan gifts, each anecdote adds colour to the race weekend. For FansBRANDS® followers, these untold stories enrich our understanding of Formula 1® culture and demonstrate that the sport resonates long after the chequered flag falls.
