Alonso: "If you need me, I'll be here. Even beyond fifty!"

Alonso: "If you need me, I'll be here. Even beyond fifty!"

Tóth Krisztián Márk |

Alonso, at 44 years old, certainly does not look like someone who wants to hang up his boots. He gets asked almost every weekend how much longer he will stay. His answer is always the same: for a long time, because he is committed.

Alonso could be on the track even at 50, which will already represent a unique record in modern Formula 1:

“If I turn fifty? I don't know what will happen then, and that's why I keep all doors open. This year, I definitely wanted to race, and I want to be on the grid next year due to the changing regulations. I want to try myself in 2026, and I wanted to wait for Honda's arrival. Adrian Newey's joining has added a huge plus to all of this, and it made extending my contract very attractive.

I will always be ready to help my team, in whatever capacity they need me. If they want me behind the wheel, then I’ll be there, age doesn’t matter! If I feel motivated and fast enough, then nothing can stop me; otherwise, I will be the first to raise my hand to say it’s over!

It bothers me a bit that the results on Sundays are not what they used to be, but that does not diminish my motivation and hunger for success. On the contrary! I am calm and determined because this is a transitional period from which we can learn a lot. We are now preparing to stand there in a worthy manner when we have a championship-contending car. And that time will come when the team is ready; I will be here then.” - said Fernando Alonso calmly.
