Pirelli has confirmed the tyre allocation and track updates for the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix, set to take place at the Hungaroring. The tyre supplier will provide the softest compounds in its range, ensuring teams have a variety of options to manage the demanding circuit conditions.
For this eleventh round of the 2026 Formula 1® season, each driver will receive two sets of hard tyres (C3), three sets of medium tyres (C4), and eight sets of soft tyres (C5). Additionally, drivers who reach the final qualifying session (Q3) will be granted an extra set of soft tyres. Pirelli’s regulations require competitors to use at least two different slick compounds during the race if the track remains dry.
The Hungaroring, measuring 4.381 kilometres with 14 corners, is often likened to a kart track due to its tight and twisty layout. Recent resurfacing work has been carried out on Turns 1 and 12, but the overall track surface remains rough with relatively low grip. This means the circuit is expected to evolve significantly over the race weekend, influencing tyre performance and strategy.
Track temperatures in Hungary are typically the highest of the season, which can lead to thermal degradation and graining, particularly affecting the rear tyres. This factor makes tyre management a key element for teams, with degradation levels potentially balancing the effectiveness of one-stop and two-stop race strategies. Given the difficulty of overtaking on this circuit, maintaining track position will be crucial.
Following the Grand Prix, Pirelli plans to conduct two days of tyre testing in Budapest, involving Aston Martin, Audi, and Alpine. These tests will provide further data on tyre behaviour and development, contributing to the ongoing refinement of tyre compounds and performance for the championship.
