Honda’s updated power unit made its first on-track appearance during an Aston Martin filming day at the Hungaroring, marking a key step ahead of its planned race debut at the 2026 Dutch Grand Prix. This event followed closely after the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix and was part of Aston Martin’s ongoing preparations for the second half of the season.
The new-specification power unit was integrated into Aston Martin’s car and tested on track with drivers Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll behind the wheel. Alongside this, Aston Martin had introduced a significant chassis upgrade package at the Hungarian Grand Prix, featuring 16 developments on the AMR26. These upgrades contributed to Alonso reaching Q2 for the first time this season and finishing the race in 13th place, with Stroll finishing 14th.
Following the Hungarian Grand Prix, Aston Martin, Alpine, and Audi remained at the circuit to assist Pirelli with tyre testing before the filming day. Honda’s Trackside General Manager and Chief Engineer, Shintaro Orihara, confirmed that the team provided support for power unit integration and data collection during this period. The running of the updated power unit was planned before the summer shutdown, aligning with the team’s schedule.
Aston Martin’s Chief Trackside Officer, Mike Krack, described the collaboration between the team and Honda as having improved since the challenging start of their partnership earlier in 2026. The two parties are working more efficiently together with the aim of enhancing performance and regaining competitiveness in the championship.
