Peter Windsor gives with one hand and takes away with the other, at least when it comes to McLaren.
According to the renowned F1 journalist, the McLaren team is doing a fantastic job with their car, which they have shaped into a top championship contender in just three years. However, he believes that the caliber of their drivers falls far short of the team's level, as Max Verstappen would easily dominate them in the same machinery:
“If Max were sitting in a McLaren right now, he would simply devour Oscar Piastri alive, he would destroy him. The same goes for Lando Norris; he would be completely defenseless against Verstappen. Both are obviously strong and talented drivers, each with their own strengths, but neither comes close to Max Verstappen's level, which is astonishingly high. That’s why he can do what he does at Red Bull, and why he can be better than McLaren with a car that doesn't even reach Mercedes' level.” - Windsor pondered. These are serious words, but not without some basis...
