The Alpine stable has stirred the waters significantly, as they have made two divisive personnel changes within a few hours.
Neither of the changes can be called surprising, as Flavio Briatore's appointment was already due, and Franco Colapinto is not being kept by the team just to warm the bench.
"The BWT Alpine Formula One Team announces that Oliver Oakes has resigned from his position as team principal effective today. The team has accepted his resignation, and Flavio Briatore will continue his role as managing advisor immediately while also taking on the position of team principal. We thank Oliver for his work and do not wish to make any further statements on this matter." - the statement read.
It is said that Briatore's driver policy played a significant role in Oakes' departure, as the Italian wanted to replace Jack Doohan at all costs to give Colapinto a chance. This has now happened:
"I feel sharp, and after the team's support, test program, and the simulator work done, I am ready. I will do everything I can to pick up the pace as soon as possible and achieve the best results together with Pierre Gasly." - stated Colapinto.
The Argentine driver will have the opportunity to prove himself in five races for now, and in Silverstone, he will be compared to Doohan, at which point they will decide who will be employed until the end of the season.
